Revolutionary Road

Finally watched Revolutionary Road last night. Absolutely fantastic. Just one more film to prove that Sam Mendes is a great director. Along with the outstanding acting of Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio (not to mention a smaller, but very well-played part by Michael Shannon), the film looked amazing, thanks to the very talented Roger Deakins. Deakins is one of the best in Hollywood…a well-respected cinematographer with a long list of phenominal films under his belt. Films like The Shawshank Redemption, Fargo (and just about every other Coen brothers film), No Country for Old Men, The Assassination of Jesse James and more. So, there is not a frame of this film that does not look impecable.

The film is focused on Kate and Leo’s relationship, or lack there of. The ups and mostly downs of their marriage. Their  plans, their dreams, their thoughts, their emotions…all flooding out in a bursts of anger, confusion, love, and hate. It is incredible to watch the raw emotions spewing, and yet, painful at the same time. You’re never really sure how they will turn out, but you have a feeling.

I won’t divulge any of the plot points of this film, because I hate spoilers. However, I will tell you this, it is one very depressing film, but is definitely, definitely worth seeing.
